HAL is the first drug manufacturing company to be set up in the public sector by Government of India in the year 1954 with active co-operation of WHO and UNICEF. It was the first company in India to launch recombinant DNA product, rHU-Erythropoietin (Hemax) in 1993. The company introduced new products like Halpen, Haltax, Hexpan in 2008.
